(Hakone Japan) Useful guidelines which help you make a more unique visit plan to Hakone/Odawara/Gotemba ~ you'd better know them in advance

In recent years, there have been a lot of passages sharing information about how to travel Hakone and Kawaguchiko/Lake Kawaguchi. I do think that these kinds of information are really very useful for reference. 
Here, instead of sharing my own courses, I would like to share some information which you'd better know when you plan your visit to Hakone/Odawara/Gotemba.
Hope that you can plan your own unique visit better.


箱根 Hakone

【Transportation】

For information about how to take the Odakyu Line from the Airports or from Tokyo, Shinjuku, please refer to the following:

Normal Train:
Depart from Shinjuku, then transfer from Odawara, then finally arrive at Hakone-Yumoto. It takes about 115 minutes.

Odakyu Limited Express (Romancecar):
Depart from Shinjuku and directly arrive at Hakone-Yumoto. All seats are reserved seats. It takes about 85 minutes.

* Remarks: 
You need to buy a normal fare + limited express surcharge to take the Odakyu Limited Express "Romancecar". Make sure to buy your limited express ticket before boarding. Otherwise you will need to pay an extra fare of 300 yen (1,200 yen for a saloon car), and no specific seat will be reserved for you.

Economical Excursion Tickets/ Freepass

【Hakone Freepass】

The Hakone Freepass is a discount excursion ticket offering full coverage of the popular sightseeing destinations in Hakone. Hakone Freepass allows you to get on and off freely within a specified area, as well as providing discount admission to various attractions in the area, and also includes return transportation
on the Odakyu Line. 

Validity is for 2 or 3 days. With Hakone Freepass, you can also ride on 8 different types of transport in the area, such as the Hakone Tozan Line and the Hakone Ropeway, allowing you the freedom to thoroughly explore Hakone.

【Fuji Hakone Pass】

The Fuji-Hakone Pass is valid for three days, available only for non-Japanese tourists, and can be used for traveling throughout the popular Fuji-Hakone area.

The pass is available in the set that includes a round trip from Tokyo (Shinjuku) at discount prices (Odakyu Line, Chuo Highway Bus) and one limited to the Fuji-Hakone area that does not come with round trip tickets.
They both allow you to freely use designated forms of public transportation in the Fuji-Hakone area and give you discounts at about ninety facilities (over fifty in the Hakone area and over forty in the Fuji area) such as art museums and restaurants.

The Hakone Ropeway service operates at approximately one-minute intervals, and the 30-minute journey from Sounzan Station to Togendai Station, which nestles on the shore of Lake Ashi, allows visitors to take in such spectacular views as the crystal-clear blue waters of Lake Ashi, the rising volcanic fumes of Owakudani and the grandeur of Mount Fuji on a fine, sunny day. 


Hakone Sightseeing Cruise
The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise serves the 3 ports of Togendai-ko, Hakonemachi-ko, and Motohakone-ko on Lake Ashi. Following is information on each port, access to each port, and nearby tourist attractions.

*For the land vehicles, you can just take quite easily. However, since the ropeway and cruise have limited stations only. It is recommended that you may take the ropeway to Owakudani station to sight-see Owakudani first, then take the ropeway back to Togendai Station. From the Togendai station, you may transfer from Togendai-ko to visit Hakone-jinja Shrine or Hakone Checkpoint.

Where to see Mount Fuji from Hakone:
1. From the Hakone Ropeway. Between Ubako station and Owakudani station.
2. From Hakone Sightseeing Cruise. Near the lake area of Hakonemachi. 
3. From the observation platform of Onshi-Hakone Park. 
4. Near Gotemba. 
*Even if you may not be interested in shopping, you can enjoy the beautiful view of Mount Fuji especially from the bridge which links the east zone and the west zone of Gotemba Outlet
